Studio Dais was approached by Watches of Lancashire to create 100 soft enamel badges, which were to be given to customers with all classic vintage watches purchased. We were tasked with transferring their logo, which is a based on the Lancashire rose, into badge form.
Soft Enamel Pin Badges + Classic Vintage Watches
They opted for soft enamel pins, which are slightly cheaper than hard enamel pins but have a three dimensional quality to them, due to the polishing and flattening step being removed. In case you didn’t know, hard enamel pins, start out as soft enamel, the only difference is the final step in production, where we carefully sand and polish down the raised metal ridges so it is flush with the enamel, the skill comes in the polishing stages so as to not leave any scratches or marks.
Being on time is pretty important in today’s fast moving world. Everyone carries a timepiece now, in the form of a phone. But this is only a recent phenomenon since around the mid 1990s and more so since 2007 when the iconic Apple iPhone was released. Before the 90s, if you wanted to know the time anywhere you would need a watch, and that most likley would have been a classic vintage watch, or if it was the 1980s, a quartz watch.
The ‘Quartz Crisis’ in the 1970s (which had been a growing threat since the late 1950s) meant more people than ever could access time. And very good time at that with a wave of now ultra-affordable and somewhat throwaway timepieces being commodities by the 1980s. This meant that traditional wind up watches which had been the mainstay of the watch industry for the last 300 years were now at a threat of oblivion. Once the quartz wave had died down and order restored, it was clear mechanical watches were here to stay. It might be comparable to what CDs and MP3s did to vinyl records. It’s clear humans love a connection with all that is real and tangible.
We decided to catch up with Ian of Watches of Lancashire to find out more about their business and how they used the soft enamel pin badges we created for them.
How long has Watches of Lancashire been in operation for?
Watches of Lancashire started in 2017 but we have been in business for over 25 years repairing vintage watches. We decided we wanted to focus on the vintage market and Watches of Lancashire was then born from this idea.
Company Mission
What is your company mission?
Our company mission is to provide our customers with the best quality classic vintage watches on the market. Everything we sell is serviced and comes with a 2 year guarantee, we are watchmakers so we make sure everything is perfect before it hits the website for sale.
What is a normal day to day for the team at Watches of Lancashire?
Every day is different! One day we can be buying in stock, traveling around the country, even internationally! We recently went to Japan on a buying trip. Some days on site seeing customers showing off our stock. Other days we can be prepping stock, servicing new and existing watches and listing on the website.
What does Watches of Lancashire specialise in?
We specialise in vintage focusing on Vintage Omega and Vintage Chronograph mainly Heuer. Ian of Watches of Lancashire, started at euer in his early years so he is always drawn back to them and has a keen passion in that area.
What should we look out for when buying a watch for both precision of time keeping and craftsmanship?
You need to look for quality. Has the watch been well looked after, has it been serviced, does it have water damage? A watch will last you a lifetime if it has been looked after and not abused. One thing we often look for is, has the watch been over polished or has it had a dial refinish as these are some aspects that can heavily impact a watches value. It’s always best to buy a watch from someone who has serviced it, as repairing them can be incredibly costly and quickly increase if parts are needed, that’s if you can get them!
