What are Signet / Lost Wax Rings?

Signet rings and lost wax rings have been with us for a very long time, some 7000 years at least when gold and silver and other metals were being smelted for use as jewelry and fine arts. Signet rings and lost wax rings were usually worn by high ranking families and military personnel and were used to denote status, origin and belonging in ancient Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome . As well as this, rings can be designed to stamp official documents and scrolls. Times have indeed changed, and we, Studio Dais, have been offering bespoke made rings and other jewelry as part of our offering for quite some time.

What Type Of Rings Do Studio Dais Offer?

At Studio Dais we can pretty much manufacture any type of ring, but our two most popular styles of ring are the signet ring and the lost wax ring. But what are the differences in these 2 styles? Please note, we can split the rings up in various sizes. If you order 100 rings we can do 3 different sizes, we usually find working to the most common ring size and then 2 sizes up and down from that is the sweet spot.

Bespoke / Custom Signet Rings.

Our bespoke / custom lost wax rings are made from either brass, zinc alloy or sterling silver 925. All materials have their own purpose. Brass is used for simple designs with a bold look, brass is the softest of the metals and therefore is ideal for simpler designs. Zinc alloy is the hardest of the metals which means our tooling can get more intricate designs with no flaws. And sterling silver .925 is our highest quality metal which needs no introduction. Sterling silver is a relatively soft metal but we can still achieve highly detailed designs. Our custom signet rings are usually ideal for monogram rings and simple college rings. We are able to add in jewels as well as other decorations if needed. All of our rings can be plated in up to 30+ different plating options. From silver, gold, antique, nickel black and more. As well as this you can have engravings on each individual ring so sequential numbers etc.

Bespoke / Custom Lost Wax Rings

Our custom / bespoke lost wax rings are a different beast altogether. The lost wax ring process is one of the oldest forms of ring making. We are able to achieve interesting results using the lost wax method, such as animal heads, human heads and skulls, 3D lettering and much more. The lost wax method is labour intensive but well worth the results. All of our rings can be plated in up to 30+ different plating options. From silver, gold, antique, nickel black and more. As well as this you can have engravings on each individual ring so sequential numbers etc. As with our signet rings, you can choose various metals such as brass, zinc alloy and sterling silver 925.
