Custom Made Woven Labels Introduction.
What Are Custom Woven Clothing Labels?
Custom woven clothing labels can be whatever you want them to be!
Woven, weave, stitched, jacquard, weft, knitted… “It’s all so confusing!” we hear you say? This bog post will aim to clam your nerves. It’s super exciting running your own business or brand, but choices can be a killer sometimes. We want to lay the ground work for you and show you how Studio Dais can take you from startup bedroom brand to catwalk extraordinaire!
The Choice Is Yours
Studio Dais can create any shape, size and material. Hence the word ‘custom’, and that’s what we specialises in, custom made merchandise. Studio Dais can make custom woven labels to your own specification and unique requirements. There are many type of custom labels, and not all are woven, but this article is focussed solely on woven labels. Let’s dive in and find out more! It’s worth noting all of our woven labels are manufactured under strict Oeko-Tex Standard 100 requirements. This means from the raw materials to the hands that make them, everything and everyone are cared for along the chain of production.
Type of Custom Made Woven Label and Weave Patterns
There are 3 MAIN type of weave pattern we focus on when manufacturing. Each weave pattern has its own unique characteristic look and price advantage. Below we will break them down.
Damask Weave Pattern
Damask labels are our most popular labels! These labels are suited for all needs and requirements. Streetwear brands, high-end couture, high-street mid market and high-end evening wear. Let’s find out why!
Reversible Jacquard-Patterned Fabric
It is a reversible Jacquard-patterned fabric which requires a little more finesse on the machine’s part. They can be made from wool, silk, linen, cotton or synthetic fibres such as polyester.
High Density & Skin Care
The high density damask weave pattern is our most popular weave pattern because it offers the highest quality finish overall with a more intricate weave. This high density weave is also great for our skin; as damask labels are silky smooth to the touch. Imagine walking through a dense thorn bush with a brand new knitted wooly jumper, the outcome would be less than favourable. Damask labels are the exact opposite to this!
Luxurious Shine
Our damask labels have their signature shine from the long floats of satin-woven warp and weft threads, which cause soft highlights on the fabric which reflect light differently depending on your angle of view.
As you can see. The Damask weave pattern creates a more detailed label due to thinner threads being used, this leaves the labels feeling silky smooth as well as longer lasting! Win!
Satin Weave Pattern
The Satin weave is the next one down from our damask range. Satin is an awesome option if the absolute highest quality is not a concern, and you are a little more price conscious. Our satin weave is a smooth faced 5×1 weave and still has that damask smooth and shiny appearance as well as being a little more delicate in feel and touch. Therefore, satin will be an ideal choice for wedding dresses, evening dresses and men’s suits as well as wedding wear.
Taffeta Weave Pattern
One other weave pattern that is not as popular as our damask or satin is Taffeta. This is a much simpler 1×1 weave pattern and has a more ‘vintage’ and ‘craft’ aesthetic to it. So therefore Taffeta is suited to craft items, vintage clothing and more hobbyist brands. Taffeta is a more affordable option due to the simpler production process. But don’t be dismayed by this otherwise simple weave. It has its place in the world of custom made woven labels too!
Types of Fold On Your Woven Clothing Label
The customisation does not stop with type of weave! We are just getting started! We have up to ten different fold types to suit a variety of needs. Don’t get caught up with confusion though, there is no science to this, just which one you prefer as a creative decision maker!
Centre Fold / Loop Fold Labels
Centre fold or loop fold labels are the most common labels you will see. They are simple to manufacture as well as apply to your clothing, accessories and garments. We suggest these labels if you want to keep costs down. They are typically sewn into T-shirt, shirt and jumper necklines and sewn into the top seam of the garments.
Straight Cut / Boarder Labels
Straight cut or boarder labels are simple to manufacture and apply to clothing or accessories. They are very versatile and look very professional. All four edges of the custom label are sewn creating a flat and flush application and feel. These boarder labels work just as well on accessory items like baseball caps, pencil cases and wallets as they do on clothing items like outwear coats and raw selvedge denim jeans.
One Sided Fold Labels
One sided or front facing labels are similar to our centre fold but the difference is the part you see is single sided, no looped and folded. They are usually best small and light so work great for sizing labels such as ‘s’, ‘m’, ‘l’ etc. And kept to a size of no greater than 15mm x 15mm. These labels are best used in conjunction with other usually larger labels. Best to get in touch and we can discuss your options.
Miter Fold Labels
Miter fold labels are great for hanging your garments. They are typically used in the neckline of clothing and other garments. They are long, rectangular and have 45 degree folds at each end. There is plenty of space for branding along the labels. Miter labels are not as common as they used to be, because hanging your clothes by labels is no longer considered good practice. They are perfect for lighter garments and clothing that needs to be hung quickly. Such as children’s coats, light dresses and even bathroom accessories like towels and flannels.
End Fold Labels
Our End fold labels are our second most common labels and a label you will see more often than most. End fold labels offer a large front facing for branding, website and slogan information. As well as some care instructions if you wanted them included all in one label. End fold labels are sewn directly to flat fabric (the back of a jumper, shirt or coat). This is in contrast to our centre fold labels being sewn directly into the garments seam. Aesthetically they can look pleasing when the garment is viewed from the back. And for this reason you will typically see end fold labels on higher end couture brands like Maison Margiela, Rick Owens and Even All Saints. End fold labels allow for a certain ‘rock chic aesthetic’ otherwise hard to find. Be bold, be creative!
Manhattan Book Fold Labels
The Manhattan book fold is a classic more traditional fold that not many clothing brands choose right now. There is a great opportunity to stand out with this label. However, the Manhattan book fold is an older version of our centre fold labels but without the extra fabric (and weight). Yes, Manhattan folds have extra weight to them so this may explain why they are not in fashion currently. We only suggest these labels for brands who are re-labeling blank garments or companies who want a more traditional looking label. If you are unsure, please get in touch and we can explain in more detail.
Asymmetric Fold Labels
Asymmetrical folds are usually smaller labels with as the name suggests, asymmetrical folds on each end of the label. Asymmetrical folds are not a very common label these days but they do still have their place on certain garments for a certain demographic. Mainly lighter clothing such as nightwear for women and toddler clothing items. But try this label out for something different!
Uncut Roll Labels
The uncut roll labels are essentially just that, uncut! We can manufacture your clothing and accessories labels in one big roll. And you can cut them as you please. This is a great option to keep your custom woven labels in one place, neat and orderly! They come in sizes measured in meters. The minimum length is 100 meters with the usual length ordered being 500 meters. The uncut roll is usually for larger organisations who have large wholesale outputs of garments, and who have facilities to cut the uncut roll labels in a professional manner.
Longitudinal Fold Labels
Longitudinal fold labels are similar to our end fold labels where by they are sewn directly to flat surfaces of fabric. Except with longitudinal fold labels are sewn horizontally or longitudinally (that is a great word)! Longitudinal folds will work great for streetwear brands, high end couture labels, high street mid market clothing brands as well as start up fashion brands wanting to make big moves early on! Longitudinal folds have great marketing capability as you have a large surface area for your brand name, slogans and social media and website information. Don’t miss out on these!
